Feioi’s…falling for flamingos

Cole & Son Contemporary Restyled Flamingos wallpaper

Hurrah – it’s the end of the month and that means payday! And to top it all off we’ve got a long weekend in the UK – yay! If you fancy treating yourself to a little housey gift then look no further. The #FeioiFinds series is a monthly wishlist of lovely homeware and interiors goodies that I’ve been falling in love with.

This month, I’ve gone a bit bonkers for flamingos. It seems I’m not the only one as flamingo themed homewares are literally ERRRRYWHERE at the moment. Plus it follows on nicely from last week’s post all about adding pink to your home. If you’re feeling like one of your rooms is lacking a certain something that you can’t quite put your finger on, perhaps a majestic pink bird on one leg is exactly what it needs.

Feioi’s falling for…fire bowls

Last month saw the introduction of Feioi Finds – a curated collection of some lovely wish-list-worthy items for your viewing pleasure. I was falling for some gorgeous mirrors in May and this month I’m turning my attention to the great outdoors.

Come on baby, light my fire

Who doesn’t love a good BBQ? We certainly do in our house, and it’s so lovely to spend time outdoors when the weather is good enough. As darkness descends on a cool summer’s eve, there’s nothing like a blazing fire to keep the party going. Just because the sun has gone to bed, doesn’t mean we have to! We’ve been shopping around for fire bowls and baskets so I thought I’d use the opportunity to share my #FeioiFinds with you!

All the small things

Think of the big picture. That’s what people always say, isn’t it? Of course the big picture, and being able to visualise it, is very important when it comes to interior design project management but what about the little things? Little things can get pushed aside while considering the big picture, delayed until a later date or forgotten about completely. However, it’s the little things that turn “nice” interior design into OMG A-MAZ-ING interior design. And who doesn’t want that?

I’m not going to list eeeeeevery tiiiiiiny little detail you might want to consider. It varies so much from room to room, house to house, project to project. I’d be here forever and you’ll be bored. Instead, here are a few ideas to get you started. The rest is up to you…

Inside out

I may be tempting fate by saying this out loud but it would appear that summer has arrived in the UK – yippee! Who knows how long it’ll last but with reports stating that 2016 is set to be the hottest year since records began, it’s looking promising. As a country famous for its temperamental weather, many of us are very good at bringing the outside in. Lush house plants, fragrant herb pots and beautiful vases adorned with flowers decorate our homes so that we can still enjoy a little nature on those indoor rainy days.

However, with the sunshine and warm weather out in force, we need to think about taking the inside outside for a change! Here are a few of my favourite ways to bring your living space outdoors.

A touch of black

Interior design loves a black accent. Think of it like your favourite pair of black boots or a little black jacket. It goes with everything, brings out the brightness in colours and makes an outfit pop. Case in point:

Black is a colour that many are afraid to use in interiors. Common concerns are that it’ll be dark, heavy, harsh. All myths my dear friends! A little (or a lot of) black can elevate your interior design and enhance a look like you never imagined. No matter what your style, a little splash of the darkest hue is exactly what you need to complete the look. Not convinced? Hear me out…

Decorating with ironmongery

An often overlooked feature, ironmongery is like the jewellery of interior design. Not in a blingy kind of way, I’m not talking glitter wallpaper and rhinestone sofas. Although if that’s your thing, then good for you! This is more like your favourite watch; a subtle accessory with a functional purpose. From window catches to door furniture, there is a whole multitude of items to consider with a seemingly endless choice from intricate, antique finds to sleek, contemporary styles. This is one of those little things that add an effortless sense of style to a home. It’s almost imperceptible, but the difference it makes is enormous. Here are just a few examples to get those creative juices flowing. Go forth and accessorise!

Earning your stripes

It was on a particularly exciting day last week when I was putting away some laundry and looked down to see five striped tops staring up from one of my drawers. FIVE! And I’m pretty sure there are more striped garments in other drawers. Oh well, at least I’m consistent.

As an unashamed stripes addict, I decided to share my love of this classically stylish pattern that, in my book, never fails. Stripe up your life in these 10 wonderful ways:
