For those of you that follow me on social media (and if you don’t, why the hell not?) you may have seen that I have an exciting new project coming up this month in conjunction with Houzz. As one of the headline partners at designjunction, Houzz will be unveiling their SmartHouzz on Granary Square, Kings Cross for the duration of the exhibition that takes place 22-25 September. I was delighted to be asked to collaborate with Houzz on the design and to project manage the work to bring all the ideas to a reality.
As the world’s leading platform for home renovation and design, Houzz is always at the forefront of interior design and identified key trends and insights from its 40 million-strong worldwide community to help create the design. The bright green SmartHouzz pod will be a showcase of these community data trends and inspired by the most popular search terms and design dilemmas from the site. The design seeks to represent the modern UK Houzzer’s home focusing on ways to maximise small space living, smart design, smart storage and smart technology – hence the name SmartHouzz!
The SmartHouzz will be furnished with gorgeous furniture and accessories from the John Lewis Autumn/Winter16 range including their new Design Project collection, which is a series of contemporary pieces developed by John Lewis to be original, progressive and beautiful. With paint colours provided by Dulux Amazing Space and Karndean’s new LooseLay Longboard on the floor, it’s set to be one seriously smart space!
Incorporating all these ideas into the 40 square metre space has been an incredibly interesting and exciting challenge, plus it’s super fun working with the Houzz team! I’m all about combining beauty with functionality when it comes to design so I love coming up with clever ways to use space and smart storage solutions. I’m so excited to see it all come together in a few weeks time and would love you to come down to check it out! These images offer a sneak peek into some of our ideas but you’ll have to visit the real thing to see it in all its glory.
As well as showcasing the SmartHouzz, Houzz will be offering free design consultations with a Houzz professional like myself during the event. Houzz users were given the opportunity to win a consultation by submitting a design dilemma on the Houzz site so I’m looking forward to hearing what questions I’m going to get! Drop-in sessions are also available 4pm-6pm on Thursday 22nd to Saturday 24th September and 2pm-4pm on Sunday 25th September.
designjunction is an annual design exhibition which is part of the London Design Festival. The carefully curated design exhibition changes location every year presenting the latest in contemporary design against unusual, industrial spaces. There are four parts to this year’s Kings Cross event so after you’ve been to see us at Granary Square, why not explore the other three for maximum inspiration! The SmartHouzz is open to the public but you can register for tickets to access the rest of designjunction on the website or pay on the door. Hope to see you there!
