Sofa.com collaboration with Barneby Gates for Design Lab AW16

I do love hearing about exciting new collaborations and when they’re with up and coming designers then that’s even better (because everyone loves an underdog). It’s for this very reason that the Design Lab from sofa.com gets a big thumbs up from me! 👍🏼

The bi-annual initiative by sofa.com teams up with UK textile designers to create beautiful limited edition collections. These exclusive ranges pair the stylish furniture designs of sofa.com with fabrics designed by fresh, new talent. Their AW16 collection with design duo Barneby Gates launches next month but I’ve had a sneak peek and decided it’s too good to keep to myself!

If you aren’t familiar with sofa.com then get yourself acquainted! This lovely furniture company make beautiful sofas, armchairs and upholstered beds as well as the odd stool and accessory. The designs are gorgeous (the Bluebell sofa is simply dreamy) and the fabric ranges are large enough to please anyone. In 2011, they launched Design Lab which created the opportunity to support new creative talent while also producing exclusive limited edition collections. It’s a win-win!

The AW16 Design Lab collection is in collaboration with Barneby Gates, which was established in 2009 by childhood friends Vanessa Barneby and Alice Gates. Their fabric and design studio in Wiltshire is known for the pair’s stunning designs featuring traditional techniques, historical references but with a contemporary twist. The collection will be launching next week and features two exclusive fabric designs – Palm Trellis and Owl. These will be available for six months across sofa.com’s range of sofas, armchairs, footstools, beds and cushions. You can read more about the initiative here www.sofa.com/design-lab.

The designs are exquisite and wonderfully unique, both featuring Barneby Gates’ signature trellis style. The Owl design features a hand drawn owl that sits snugly between the tessellating honeycomb background woven onto heavy linen resulting in a look that’s both traditional and playful.

Palm trellis sees an elegant palm tree motif set against a more geometric art-deco style trellis. The glamour is ramped up even more by having it laser cut into a luxurious emerald green velvet. Both designs are also available on 100% linen house fabric and perfectly complements sofa.com’s range of neutral fabrics making them the perfect statement pieces for this season.

We were inspired to create a fabric that combined English eccentricity with classical timelessness, and have achieved this with the new Design Lab collection. We were truly excited to collaborate with sofa.com, comfortable in the knowledge that the brand shares the same philosophy of unleashing the potential of colour and pattern in the home, and that together we could create something beautifully unique.”

The one-off collection is only available for six months so act fast! The pieces will be available from next week both online or in one of the sofa.com showrooms in Chelsea, Islington, Bankside, Bath and Edinburgh.
